Novel Cementitious Composites For Sustainable Construction

The construction industry of 21st century, on one hand, is trying to develop cost saving practices to deliver maximum benefits to the stakeholder; while on the other hand, the industry is under acute pressure from governments and global monitoring agencies to reduce its carbon foot print in order to contribute towards global sustainability efforts on a high priority basis. The current focus of the group lies in the areas of developing novel hybrid cementatious composite materials for critical structural applications as an alternative to conventional concrete without compromising the inherent strength while improving the interlocking / reinforcing characteristics and durability. In this regard, attempts are also being made to utilize the industrial waste / by-products to alleviate the issues associated with the low energy absorption capacity of the concrete.
