Civil Engineering is the oldest branch of engineering and comprises the design and construction of roads, airports, tunnels, bridges, water supply and sewage systems, dams, harbours, railroad systems, docks, power supply systems, buildings and even nuclear power plants etc. The industries that generally apply infrastructure (bridges, highways, rail and so on), energy, water and public health, environmental and pollution, surveying (Geological Survey, Remote Sensing and GIS), coastal and marine, sewerage systems, disaster mitigation and management, etc. Civil engineering professionals can find employment in both public (CPWD, NHAI, BRO, MES, Railway, Minister of water resources, BIS, DRDO, CPCB etc.) and Public Sector Undertaking (GAIL, HAL, NTPC, NPCIL etc.) Students can join the government jobs and PSUs through GATE (Graduate aptitude technical exam) exam and UPSC (ESE) exams.
